.....Anyone interested in forensic nursing should try to "shadow" a nurse on the local sexual assault response team, suggested Irma A. Groot, RN, who operates FNES (Forensic Nurse Examinations & Services), a San Diego-area consultancy with a global clientele.
"An opportunity came up for the specialized training, and I thought I would be good at the meticulous attention to detail and preservation of evidence the job requires," Groot said of her foray into the field in the late 1990s.
Now, she and her colleagues are venturing into the area of homicide, where sexual assault or domestic violence has occurred. They are breaking into many territories that open up constantly in forensic consulting and examinations....

Irma Groot, R.N., CNOR, SANE, DABFN. Irma is a "super nurse". She is an operating room, critical care and forensic nurse in a major US Medical Center. She is also a military Trained Flight Nurse. Her analytical skill, clinical judgement and management decision-making are exceptional. She has the ability to teach, supervise and mentor, most often in highly critical and death threatening situations.
